I created JOY OF CREATION (a private FB group) to connect with people who desire to grow in their personal creative journey. As an upholsterer and fiber textile artist my desire and passion is to share my experiences about creating with fabric & thread with others.
I will share weekly what's happening in my personal creative studio based on the theme of the month. I will share the following and much more:
- sewing techniques
- book resources
- artist videos that inspire me
- my own personal storytelling
- opportunites to purchase fabrics & threads
If you are seeking perfection and "how-to" instructions from start to end --- this is not the group for you. This group was created by a gal who loves to create with fabrics and threads and who is passionate about sharing the creative process that is the JOY OF CREATION with others. A gal who is sooooo NOT perfect nor an expert on anything. Yet, perfection never brings true happiness. But surrender from being a slave to perfection, to having the need to control everything is per JOY!
My mission is to encourage others to slow down and become more mindful of how we use the resources around us inparticulary fabrics and threads. Fabrics and threads make up a large majority of what we engage with in our daily living. The items we clothe ourselves with, decorate our homes with, and even engage with to create new things such as art cloths. My passion is to wake up every morning with a desire to reimagine the possiblities of how we can transform the ordinary into extraordinary.
It begins by reintroducing our hearts, mind, and soul to think about our daily living in a new way.
As you might of guest, or maybe it might come as a surprise, I am more then an Upholsterer and Textile Artist, I am foremost a Christian Artist and a Pastor. Don't worry this is not about religion. This is all about how God took my restless soul, my brokeness and guided me through his spoken word to teach me how to reimagine my life. Not to just settle for a good life but instead for my best life. But I first needed to learn how to slow down my mind and surrender my heart; then the transformation could begin.

BACKGROUND STORY:
In 2023 I became unable to do fulltime reupholstery work due to extreme health concerns that required surgeries that left me unable to create (I was battling with Uterine Fibroids and I had a Lumpectomy done on my left breast). 2026 update: I am cancer free.
I became very sad and worried that I would not be able to create anymore and also cause financial stress to our household. UNTIL GOD SPOKE WORDS OF LIFE TO MY SOUL THROUGH MY FRIENDS AND CLIENTS!... My lovely reupholstery clients and friends told me, "You're CREATIVE you can SEW". After getting my doctor's approval, that is what I did - I began a journey into the process of Creative Play and the outcome were beautiful Art Cloths that would become the tapestries of my storytellling.
Some art cloths tell the tales of my emotions from moments of weakness and hurt when my body was going through recovery to moments of joy when I delighted my soul by sewing beautiful threads onto fabrics (thread painting). At age 50+ this gal does not bounce back as I did in my 40's when I had my first myomectomy. Other art cloths tell the tales of lessons learned on how to view beauty in new forms; outcomes that came by faith that every stitch served purpose. Art cloths are not just merely fabric and threads but they are art memories of my life journey captured in time for me to revisit in private in my home and at times to share with others as gifts. Sometimes the art cloths are part of my creative business and find themselves as final products for sale (purses, bags, pouches, patches, needle books and much more). The good news is that I have no control, because the process of JOY OF CREATION does not begin with the end outcome in mind. It begins with surrender. Isaiah 40:28-31 is a famous Bible passage from the Old Testament. It says that God is the eternal creator who never grows tired. He gives strength to weak and tired people. Those who trust in the Lord will get new strength, rise up like eagles, run without getting tired, and walk without fainting.
